LUBBOCK, Texas -- Lubbock Power and Light had a team of five linemen who had qualified for the International Linemen Rodeo competition in Kansas City, and the team is planning to leave for the competition this week.

"So, it's a competition for linemen. It's more like a track meet," electric utility trainer and coach for the rodeo team, Eric Garza said.

The competitions were based on the linemen's speed and accuracy, which showcased their expertise.

"So, for the actual competition, there's really only two events that we know for sure, and that's 'hurt man' and 'speed climb.' So those we can practice beforehand, but the two mystery events are true mystery events, so we don't know what they are," journeyman linemen, Tanner Arthur said.
