SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane County judge on Tuesday sentenced a woman involved in vandalizing a Spokane Valley church that displayed a Pride flag .
Brigid Shannon was the last of four defendants to be sentenced in connection to the 2023 vandalism at Veradale United Church of Christ. Court documents say Shannon and three other defendants in their early 20s stole Pride flags and sprayed the church lawn with diesel. They also burned what members of the congregation believed was a Bible verse misinterpreted to be anti-LGBTQ.
According to court records, Shannon originally faced a felony hate crime charge. However, prosecutors told the court the state did not have enough evidence to prove the charge—specifically, the element related to sexual orientation. Prosecutors instead offered a plea de
