St. John’s Masonic Lodge in Tyler will provide the cornerstone at no cost to the county. The Masons have supplied similar cornerstones for 130 other Texas courthouses, the state capitol building and even Whitehouse High School. The county and the Masons will host a cornerstone laying ceremony, a tradition dating back to the 1700s. The ceremonial placement of cornerstones has long been considered a significant milestone in construction projects.
