BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -The state transportation cabinet’s Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) recently partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and law enforcement for an annual crash reduction campaign.

According to KOHS, since 2011, October has been the month with the highest number of fatal crashes in the United States.

Ryan Fisher is the Executive Director for Kentucky Office of Highway Safety. He explained the purpose of the “operation crash reduction” campaign.

“It’s mainly focused on seat belt safety, education, you know, educating the public and high visibility enforcement to reinforce safe driving habits,” said Fisher.

The campaign occurs during Columbus Day weekend because of the number of fatal crashes that typically occur that weekend.
