FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. —

A southeast Indiana community is remembering a longtime Franklin County sheriff’s deputy who died this week at 69 years old.

Johnson worked with the department for more than 40 years, beginning in 1981. He served as a jail officer, deputy, sheriff’s captain and jail commander before he retired in 2022.

Johnson is survived by his wife of 31 years and four children.

“Captain Johnson devoted his life to serving the Franklin County community with honor and integrity. We are deeply saddened by his passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Johnson family during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
