CORNELIUS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – With major changes possibly on the way for northern Mecklenburg County, Cornelius leaders are looking to position the town to better fit a new era.
Next month, Mecklenburg County voters will decide whether a 1-cent tax increase bolsters transit and road networks. One of the marquee projects the tax would fund is the Red Line commuter rail, which would connect uptown Charlotte to the northern towns.
On Monday, representatives from the Kimley-Horn engineering firm presented to the Cornelius Planning Board its vision for a transformed downtown. The 2050 Downtown Master Pan calls for more pedestrian friendly streets, re-development of car-oriented businesses and creating a multifaceted destination for local families.
