Six children and an adult have been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old man at an Illawarra train station earlier this year.

Jack Westren was allegedly stabbed at Shellharbour Junction train station on the afternoon of January 28.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene but could not be revived.

Police charged 39-year-old woman Tamara Lee Doust and a 15-year-old boy with murder earlier this year.

Six other children were charged with lesser offences over the incident, but police said five of them had their charges upgraded to murder on Tuesday.

A total of eight people have been charged over the matter.

The children, who could not be named for legal reasons, included a 13-year-old boy, two 14-year-old boys, a 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy.
