DOUGLAS COUNTY, Wash. – Douglas County PUD launched Washington’s first green hydrogen project, marking a significant step in clean energy innovation.

The project features a 5-megawatt electrolyzer and fueling station, the first by a public utility in Washington.

It’s expected to produce cleaner energy, reduce fuel costs for local partners and ease the strain on regional dams, the Washington State Department of Commerce said in a release.

Commerce said Douglas PUD will sell hydrogen at competitive prices, promising savings for ratepayers and creating opportunities for local jobs and clean technology businesses.

This initiative was made possible through bipartisan state legislation, over $4 million in state grants and dedicated local leadership, Commerce added.
