The Marshall County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday they have received a Highway Safety Grant aimed at improving seat belt usage in rural counties across Kentucky.
The grant is called High Five Rural Traffic Safety Project.
The project is a 12 month public safety initiative aimed at increasing seat belt usage, and decreasing serious crashes in Marshall County.
Since January 2023, the Marshall County Sheriff's Office has worked a total of 2,479 traffic accidents. Of those accidents 430 people sustained injuries, and 22 were fatalities.
Deputies will be at public events passing out information on the benefits of seat belt usage. The goal is to reduce fatalities and injury accidents in rural communities.
