WOODLAND — The final round of the Class 3A boys golf district tournament started with several golfers in the hunt for the top spot.

Colton Burgoyne of Kelso started get really worried that his shot at that title might be slipping away after four bogeys and two double-bogeys on the front nine at Lewis River Golf Course.

But that all changed on the 10th hole.

“Hole 10, I had a 30-footer off the fringe for a birdie, and I drained it,” Burgoyne said. “That was really what I needed to get my round going.”

Another birdie on No. 15 allowed him to open a six-shot lead, which was more than enough to claim the district title.

“It feels pretty good,” Burgoyne said. “I put in a lot of work all summer and grinded. It was hard, but got it done.”
