New mothers who take their babies to group singing lessons can reduce symptoms of postnatal depression, a new study suggests. Researchers said they found the singing sessions have a “long-lasting effect” on postnatal depression (PND) as they urged local health bodies to put on the programme to help reduce the burden among new mothers.

Almost one in four (24%) mothers have postnatal depression in the UK. They can face barriers to accessing treatments which indicates the need for more alternatives, such as art-based schemes, researchers said.
