Fines of up to $110,000 have been introduced for e-bike operators as the NSW government continues to crack down on shared bike clutter with new landmark laws.

The new Australian-first e-bike shared scheme regulation gives governments and councils the power to regulate e-bike operators and make sure they meet basic standards before they can be used.

"Minimum standards include helmet provision, distribution and collection of devices, adherence to council conditions, device specifications, maintenance, minimum insurances, complaints handling processes, incident reporting and rider education," a statement from the NSW government said.
