LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An American Airlines jet had to return to Los Angeles Tuesday after several passengers reported fumes in the aircraft making them sick.

The plane took off from Los Angeles International Airport just before 5 p.m. and was headed to JFK International Airport in New York.

However, the pilots turned the plane around when several passengers complained of feeling ill due to fumes in the cabin.

Pilots reported to the control tower that they also smelled and tasted something, and had put on their oxygen masks in the cockpit.

Seven passengers were evaluated, but no one was transported, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Flight tracking service FlightRadar24 shows the plane do a loop before it returned to LAX for the emergency landing.
