The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, allowed the sale and use of green firecrackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) from October 18 to 21, while confining the timing of bursting the green crackers from 6 am to 7 am and 8 pm to 10 pm.

A bench of CJI B.R.Gavai and Justice K.Vinod Chandran passed the order in response to the plea by the Delhi government seeking permission to allow the use of certified green firecrackers in the national capital this Diwali.

What did the CJI-led bench say?

"We have to take a balanced approach, permitting bursting of green firecrackers in moderation while not compromising with the environment," the bench said.
