Henley Passport Index 2025: In a major shift in global mobility rankings, the United States passport has dropped out of the top 10 most powerful passports for the first time in two decades, according to the Henley Passport Index 2025. The US now ranks 12th, tied with Malaysia, granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 180 destinations out of 227.
The London-based Henley & Partners, which compiles the index using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), defines a passport’s power based on the number of countries its holder can visit without a prior visa.
