The deadly plane crash on Monday, Oct. 13, in Dartmouth isn’t the first time a tragic aviation accident has occurred in the SouthCoast.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board , small plane crashes occur frequently, averaging around five accidents per day.

A small plane, according to the FAA, is an aircraft with a maximum certificated takeoff weight of 12,500 pounds or less. It is typically designed to carry between one and 20 passengers. The plane involved in the Oct. 13 incident was a Socata TBM 700, fixed-wing single-engine turbo-prop plane that holds seven people.

With over 100 aircrafts flying out of New Bedford Regional Airport daily, it is common to witness commercial or private planes flying over the area.
