A Hiker's Path
One of my favorite local places to hike is at the Green’s Bluff Nature Preserve . The Owen County preserve is owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy and was established in 1985. As of 2021, the preserve had a total of 1,134 acres.
Recently, an additional 83 acres were added to that number from the donation of an anonymous donor.
The property is named after a man who settled there many years ago. In the 1840s, James Green purchased a rugged piece of land in Owen County from the federal government. Located near Ind. 43, it's about 7 miles from Spencer.
Green’s Bluff is a picturesque nature preserve that is actually two separate properties, each with its own loop trail. The preserve features an upland forest, rocky bluffs and a lush flood plain forest along Raccoon C
