The lights went out as Scott Harris spoke about the Detroit Tigers ' offense Monday, Oct. 13, during his end-of-season news conference in the interview room at Comerica Park.
Literally.
"Did you pay the power bill?" Harris joked.
When the lights came back on, the Tigers' president of baseball operations continued talking about a different type of blackout — an offense that lost its way in the final month of the regular season and in the postseason.
The Tigers believe the offense ultimately led to blowing a 15½-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central and being eliminated by the Seattle Mariners in Game 5 of the ALDS . Detroit finished nine wins away from winning the World Series for the second year in a row. Expert MLB daily picks: Unique MLB bet
