As Canada’s postal workers enter the third week of another labour disruption, they are up against a House of Commons in which opposition to the current strike is nearly universal.

The Conservatives’ views on Canada Post are well-known; they tried to phase out home mail delivery as far back as 2014. But this time around, even Liberals are saying it’s time for mail carriers to be realistic and submit to a future in which Canada Post’s operations are drastically restructured.

“It is now essential that we modernize this institution, which, I would remind the House, is losing $10 million a day,” Joël Lightbound, the minister in charge of Canada Post, told the House of Commons earlier this month.
