What started as a friendship forged through swimming and triathlons became one of New York City’s sweetest success stories.

Thirty years later, Levain Bakery has grown from a small basement shop on the Upper West Side into a beloved brand with lines around the block, and now, a new book.

In “Levain: A Story of Friendship, Community, and Cookies,” co-founders Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes reflect on their journey from athletes to bakers, and the city that shaped their story.

“Through it all, New York has been the backdrop to our journey,” they write. “It is a city that has seen us at our lowest and at our highest. It has challenged us and inspired us, from early morning swims and late nights baking cookies to the bustling streets and the quiet moments in Central Park.”
