JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. — A 33-year-old truck driver from Gainesville, Georgia, is facing multiple charges in a fiery crash that left 8 people dead Monday.

Georgia State Patrol said 33-year-old Kane Aaron Hammock was arrested following the Jackson County crash. The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. on I-85 North near mile marker 147 in Commerce.

Troopers said the semi-trailer was following too closely behind a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The van was hit from the rear. The initial crash caused a chain reaction, leading to a total of six vehicles involved in the wreck.

"After impact, the Dodge van became engulfed in flames along with the tractor-trailer," GSP said.
