CHENNAI: In a dramatic pre-dawn incident on Thursday, thirty-five inmates escaped from a privately-run de-addiction center in Mangadu near Chennai , after allegedly assaulting the sole security guard on duty.

The facility, located in the Chakra nagar area, houses over a hundred individuals undergoing treatment for substance addiction. According to police reports, the incident occurred when the group of 35 inmates suddenly banded together, attacked the security guard, and seized the keys from him. They then unlocked the main door and fled the premises en masse.

The guard subsequently informed the management of the center about the mass breakout. The management immediately filed a formal complaint with the Mangadu police, who have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
