Congressional Democrats staged a protest inside the halls of the U.S. Capitol Building on Tuesday demanding that House Speaker Mike Johnson swear in Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva of Tucson, Arizona. Grijalva would be the 218th and final signature on a bipartisan discharge petition to go around Johnson and force a floor vote in the House on releasing the Jeffery Epstein files.

Johnson has delayed swearing in Grijalva for weeks despite her clear 40-point victory in the Arizona 7th Congressional District special election in September. Johnson’s original excuse was that he was waiting for the results of her election to be officially certified, despite swearing in multiple new members of congress almost immediately as their races were called and not waiting for certification.
