Rep. Lisa McClain praised Donald Trump for “keeping milk flowing to moms and babies.” Republicans are using the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program as a political weapon during the government shutdown.
McClain thanked Trump for ensuring “babies are being fed.” However, McClain herself voted against the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022 (H.R. 7790), a bill passed at the height of the national baby formula shortage.
The legislation provided $28 million in emergency funds to the FDA to address the crisis, boost supply, and prevent fraudulent or unsafe products from entering the U.S. market.
