A man who murdered his girlfriend in a hot tub in Shetland has been jailed for a minimum of 25 years. ‌

Aren Pearson, 41, knifed Claire Leveque , 24, 26 times at his mother's home in Sandness, Shetland , on February 11 2024. ‌

He was earlier found guilty at High Court in Edinburgh of her murder. The Canadian will serve at least 25 years in prison before being considered for parole. ‌

Jurors heard how Pearson inflicted 19 stab wounds on Claire’s face and neck. The deadly attack took place at the end of a campaign of domestic abuse which he waged on Claire, who he claimed to "love".

His mother claimed the hot tub was "full of blood" following the attack. She told a 999 operator: “She’s bleeding and she’s dying in a hot tub in the shed.”
