TORRINGTON, Conn — Three people arrested in connection with the death of an 11-year-old girl whose remains were found behind an abandoned property appeared before a judge for the first time on Tuesday.
Karla Garcia, the girl's mother; Jackelyn Garcia, the girl's aunt; and Jonatan Nanita, the mother's boyfriend, were ordered held on bond during the hearing at the Litchfield County Superior Court in Torrington. Karla and Jonatan face a $5 million bond, while Jackelyn was given a $1 million bond.
They are all set to appear in court for their next hearings on Nov. 14.
Karla and Jonatan are facing the most serious charges, including murder with special circumstances and conspiracy to commit murder, among others. All three were charged with cruelty to persons under 19 years of age.
