New cinnamon brands have been added to a list of recalled spices after the products were found to contain elevated levels of lead.
The Food and Drug Administration announced late last week that the number of brands in the recall has now grown to 16, including multiple from Illinois.
"Exposure to these products may be unsafe," the alert states.
The recall was initially issued in July 2024 and has been updated at least three times in the last month.
"The FDA is advising consumers to throw away and not to buy these ground cinnamon products," the recall states.
Included on the list of recalled products were at least two distributors in Illinois: Raja Foods LLC
in Skokie and Asli Fine Foods in Woodbridge.
