While the Boston Red Sox are bringing back most of their coaching staff for 2026, one key member’s status is still up in the air .

Jason Varitek, the team’s game planning and run prevention specialist, just had his contract run out, making him a free agent. While he’s reportedly expected to return to the Red Sox , other teams could be looking to hire him for a managerial role or different leadership position.

On Wednesday morning, the former All-Star catcher joined “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI to discuss his future, revealing that he has a meeting scheduled with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow later today.

“Craig reached out this weekend for us to get together this week, and I think later today we’ll have a conversation,” Varitek said.
