LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - An 18-year-old was arrested after leading the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on a chase while allegedly smuggling eight undocumented immigrants.

DPS says Damian Cantu was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 15, at around 4:16 p.m. following a chase that began on Masterson Rd., near Hwy 83. A DPS trooper had attempted to stop Cantu’s truck, which was suspected of being involved in human smuggling.

When the trooper turned on their emergency lights and sirens, the pickup reportedly refused to stop. The vehicle eventually stopped at the intersection of Masterson Rd. and Llano Ave., where eight passengers exited the truck.

Cantu then sped off and continued evading authorities through several city streets. The chase eventually ended at the intersection of N.
