Bhubaneswar: A scooter went up in flames on Jayadev Vihar overbridge of National Highway 16 in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday evening.

According to sources, three people – one man and two women – were en route to Cuttack on the scooter, carrying firecrackers, when it caught fire following an explosion. They were rescued by passersby, who then called an ambulance in which they were rushed to Capital Hospital here for treatment. They are said to have sustained severe burns in the mishap. The identity of the injured, who are believed to be of a family, is yet to be known.

The incident led to a traffic jam on the highway and police soon reached the spot to streamline vehicular movement.
