Provincial police have arrested and charged a Cardinal man in connection with two suspicious fires – one at his own residence and the other at the Cardinal fire hall – and a two-vehicle collision.
Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police’s Grenville detachment, along with Edwardsburgh Cardinal firefighters, responded around 4 a.m. on Tuesday to a house fire on Adelaide Street in Cardinal.

The home was gutted in the blaze, said police.
Edwardsburgh Cardinal Fire Chief Brian Moore said Wednesday the man eventually arrested was the lone occupant of the house.
Police said the suspect stole one of the fire department’s pickup trucks from the fire scene.
