CLEVELAND, Ohio – As the federal government shutdown enters its third week, ripple effects are taking a toll on fall travel across Ohio and the nation.

Key tourist attractions, including some of Ohio’s most visited historic and cultural landmarks, remain shuttered, causing disruptions for travelers and lost revenue for the state’s tourism sector.

The U.S. Travel Association estimates the shutdown has cost the economy more than $2 billion in the past two weeks — in lost revenue from closed attractions, flight cancellations and vacation disruptions.

Among the affected destinations in Ohio: the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, the James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor and Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on Put-in-Bay.
