CLINTON — Former Clinton Christian Academy assistant basketball coach Willie Alexander was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a 14-year-old player.

Alexander, 50, previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery and two counts of exploitation of a minor, according to the Clinton Police Department and court records.

The case began in June 2022, when the victim’s mother reported the abuse after her son told her that Alexander had been sexually abusing him for several months at the coach’s home in Clinton. Investigators said Alexander groomed the boy with gifts and promises and forced him to engage in sexual acts.

Authorities said the teen also reported traveling with Alexander to Dallas and New Orleans, and that there were plans for other trips.
