TORCH LAKE — October is harvest time, and it’s also the perfect time to visit one of Northern Michigan’s many farms for apples, cider and corn mazes.

Farms that offer these options are a part of what’s called agritourism, and it’s a growing industry.

As one farmer tells Nine and Ten, there’s a lot that goes into prepping the land for visitors.

“If you visit a few, like commercial orchards, they’re just not set up for people to get around easily. They’re full of hazards, holes, pipes, equipment and things that just aren’t public-friendly...by being an agritourism orchard, you really need to be ready to allow people to walk around the orchard and see how your trees are growing.“
