Trevor Story and Alex Bregman first shared a field, when they were opponents and didn’t know each other, during a showcase event in Dallas back in 2011, when Story was a local senior on the verge of being drafted out of high school and Bregman was a New Mexico junior looking at colleges. They grew familiar with each other through their respective commitments to LSU, trained together in Houston during the pandemic-shortened season in 2020 and talked extensively when Story was a top free agent and the Astros were interested before the 2023 season.
