ROBBINSVILLE − The schedules for female athletes in the spring just got a little lighter.

Spring 2026 will be the last opportunity for female athletes in New Jersey have to compete in both flag football and another sport, as long as legislation to sanction flag football as an official sport passes in May.

It’s very likely that flag football will become New Jersey’s newest high school sport when it is voted on by the full membership in May, with the official first state championship tournament to be held in 2027.

NJSIAA executive director Colleen Maguire said after the Oct. 15 Executive Committee meeting that the organization is planning to have A and B divisions with North and South sections for the 2027 season.
