A 70-year-old man is in the hospital after a dump truck driver hit him Wednesday morning in Jackson County.

Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Ranson Road and Hook Lane around 8:15 a.m. on reports of a crash involving a bicyclist.
Preliminary investigation showed that a 70-year-old man from Lee's Summit, Missouri, was riding his bicycle when a dump truck hit him.
The bicyclist was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital. He is undergoing surgery, a sheriff's office spokesperson said.
The driver of the dump truck, who is a 47-year-old Kansas City man, stayed at the scene. He is cooperating with the investigation.
The Lee's Summit Police Department is assisting with reconstruction of the crash as the investigation continues.
