(NewsNation) — The New Hampshire Supreme Court heard an appeal Wednesday from the lawyer of a man convicted of killing his 5-year-old daughter.

Adam Montgomery was found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2019 killing of his daughter, Harmony. He was sentenced to 45 years to life for the murder and a minimum of 11 years for falsifying evidence, tampering with a witness and second-degree assault charges.

Harmony was reported missing in 2021, and investigators believe that she was killed almost two years prior. Her stepmother, Kayla Montgomery, testified that her husband punched and beat Harmony to death because he was angry that she was having bathroom accidents in the car they lived in at the time.
