A KPU instructor from Surrey is helping youth in Uganda better cope with mental health challenges.

Dr. Kyle Matsuba of Kwantlen Polytechnic University was invited to present his work on Ugandan youth mental health to Members of Parliament in Ottawa at a research showcase organized by Grand Challenges Canada. With funding from Grand Challenges Canada , Matsuba developed a culturally based mental health program for youth in northern Uganda.

This mental health program was launched in 2022, going by the name of the ‘Wang Oo Relit Project’ (WORP). The name derives from a Ugandan tradition called Wang Oo, where the village would come together in front of a bonfire and share stories and cultural wisdom.
