A vote to add new express toll lanes on the Capital Beltway in Virginia was delayed Wednesday.

The plan would extend express lanes from the Springfield interchange through Alexandria and across the Wilson Bridge. Residents say something needs to be done about traffic congestion in the area.

Maryland leaders oppose the project, saying it would create a traffic bottleneck in Oxon Hill, instead.

The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board says the project needs more study before going forward. It's not clear when the plan will go before the Board again.
