About 20 people died while 16 others were critically injured in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer when a private bus caught fire minutes after it left for Jodhpur on Tuesday, Oct 14.

The Rajasthan Police stated that the bus was carrying 57 passengers and had departed from Jaisalmer for Jodhpur at 3 pm on October 14, as reported by the news agency PTI.

The smoke reportedly started emanating from the bus's rear end, and the driver stopped the bus after he noticed it. However, the flames engulfed the bus within minutes.

Locals rushed to the spot for rescue efforts, and were joined by army personnel along with fire tenders and police. The injured passengers were rushed to Jawahar Hospital in Jaisalmer for medical treatment.
