LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — Sweeping layoffs from the Trump administration are affecting more than 400 jobs in the Department of Education, with cuts impacting the office responsible for overseeing special education.
The cuts have raised concerns among Kentucky parents whose children rely on special education services.
Sarah Richardson’s 10-year-old daughter Avery has spina bifida. After Richardson heard the news, she became concerned that the roughly $15 billion a year spent on special education services may not trickle down to students like Avery.
The fifth grader uses multiple services in her Shelby County school to reach her highest abilities.
