COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police Department investigators are searching for the person or people responsible for a deadly overnight shooting at an apartment complex.

Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook said officers were dispatched to the Columbia Garden Apartments on Plowden Road shortly before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a man who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male outside the complex and immediately began performing CPR until EMS arrived.

The victim has been identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as 29-year-old Devonte Redmond of Columbia.

Police say evidence was collected at the scene with the help of a K-9 team as the investigation continues. Detectives are still working to determine a motive and identify any suspects.
