NEW ORLEANS — There's a heavy law enforcement presence in a Marrero neighborhood as deputies search for a suspect who took off on foot after deputies opened fire during a takedown tied to a string of car burglaries, authorities said. Two other people were taken into custody.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto, the agency has deployed drones, K-9 units, and helicopters to search for the suspect, who ran into a residential area. Lopinto said he didn’t know if any schools or hospitals had been placed on lockdown.
