SUMMIT TWP., MI – Summit Township may soon be home for a battery energy storage system spread across 13 acres of land.
The Summit Township Planning Commission approved a site plan Tuesday, Oct. 14, for a proposed electrical storage facility, currently named the Hickory BESS Facility, off Purdy Lane west of the Consumers Energy substation along the Falling Waters Trail.
The proposed site of the project is largely unpopulated, though there are some wetland areas in the vicinity.
The facility, developed by the Texas-based company Aypa Power , will house 288 containerized batteries that will interface with the electrical substation and store excess power for future use.
