The federal government came to Kitchener Wednesday to unveil 50 standard designs for affordable homes it proposes to see built.
Among them are standard designs for backyard dwellings, row houses, stacked townhouses and buildings containing two, three, four or six units.

Design options differ by region and meet the national building code. Seven standard designs are proposed for Ontario, crafted with input from architects and engineers.
In Ontario, proposed sizes range from 634 square feet for the smallest backyard dwelling (one bedroom) to 4,842 square feet for a building with six units (five units with two bedrooms and one unit with one bedroom).
