A 65-foot-tall faux mono-elm tree cell tower is to placed near the southeast corner of 29th Avenue and Idaho Road to fill a gap in Verizon Wireless service in Apache Junction.
The Apache Junction Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 14 approved a conditional-use permit for the tower to be installed on the southeast portion of the parcel.
The tower will be at least 300 feet from any residence, Planner Erika Hernandez told the commission.
“The 65-foot wireless cell tower is allowed outright with a conditional-use permit. The elm tree design with a full canopy is proposed. The branches do allow concealment of the antennas and radios,” she said.
A neighborhood meeting was held Aug. 16 and no one attended, Hernandez said.
