Premier League edges closer to spending cap before new vote on ‘anchoring’ rules

The Premier League is edging closer to a proposed spending cap, with a likely new vote on so-called “anchoring” rules next month.

Spending limits tethered at around five times the revenue generated by the bottom team have been trialled in “shadow form” this season.

Anchoring is just one of three elements in a new system to replace profit and sustainability rules, which came under attack from Aston Villa and others in recent years.
