It’s not the first time U.S. Sen. Ed Markey finds himself facing off against a well-established, younger Democrat in a primary race, and he wasted no time in appealing to his donors over the Senate aspirations of U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton.

Moulton, who has represented the Bay State’s 6th Congressional District since 2015, announced early Wednesday that he would challenge the 79-year-old Markey in the primary next year.

Markey, who has been running campaigns for Congress since the mid-70’s, was quick to warn his supporters of the development via a campaign fundraising email — with his campaign manager, Cam Carbonnier, acknowledging that they “officially have a credible, well-funded opponent in this primary race” without ever actually mentioning Moulton by name.
