Day two of testimony was held Wednesday in the Newton County Courthouse in the trial of L.C. Gosey, Jr. and Betty Jean Richards regarding the January 2023 shooting of Newton Police Chief Will Jackson at a home on Farm to Market Road 1004.
Chief Jackson took the stand and he testified that it was Gosey, and not Richards, who shot him. Under direct examination by prosecutors from the Texas Attorney General’s Office, Jackson said “I’m 100% certain it was Gosey who shot me.”
Fortunately, Chief Jackson was wearing a Kevlar vest and the bullet hit the vest at his upper back.
The incident occurred as Jackson and other law enforcement officers were assisting Colton Havard, who was a Constable at the time, to serve eviction papers against Richards and Gosey.
